MERG (Model Electronic Railway Group) is an international, UK based society for people interested in the application of electronics

and computing to all aspects of railway modelling.

Our aim is to enhance enjoyment of railway modelling by the development and use of electronics and computing to assist control

and operation of our layouts.

MERG has local sections, called Area Groups.

We are the West of Scotland Area Group; a mutual-assistance group, where members look to each other for advice, help and support.

The local members range from having little electronic knowledge to being fairly advanced.

Interested members co-operate on their specific interests –  everything from soldering skills and kit building to 3D printing

and PIC and Arduino programming.

The group aims to cater for all levels of skill.

We now have regular fortnightly meetings and also host regular Zoom sessions.

You will find our sessions are good-humoured, helpful and interesting.

We were very active prior to Covid-19, with all-members meetings in Glasgow.

In addition, we ran a selection of training workshops on basic electronics,

kit building, using oscilloscopes, layout planning software, etc.

We have started face to face meetings at Elderslie Model Railway Club.
